Conference on “National Human Rights Institutions” at BAU
Balıkesir
University (BAUN) hosted a conference titled “Independent Actors of Global
Human Rights Governance: National Human Rights Institutions” featuring Prof.
Dr. Muharrem Kılıç, President of the Human Rights and Equality Institution of
Türkiye (HREIT), as the keynote speaker.
The
event, jointly organized by the Faculty of Law and the Academic Law Student
Community, took place at the Atatürk Congress and Culture Center, Şehit Fethi
Sekin Conference Hall. It was attended by Rector Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu, Vice
Rectors Prof. Dr. Cevdet Avcıkurt, Prof. Dr. Murat Doğdubay, and Prof. Dr.
Fatih Satıl, along with deans, directors, academic and administrative staff,
and students.
In his
address, Prof. Dr. Muharrem Kılıç provided an overview of HREIT and shared
examples from applications submitted to the institution. He emphasized that
human dignity forms the foundation of all human rights regulations and
elaborated on the modern development of human rights. He also discussed the
history, roles, and responsibilities of national human rights institutions
within the framework of human rights governance.
At the conclusion of the conference, Rector Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu expressed his gratitude to Prof. Dr. Muharrem Kılıç for his valuable contributions and noted that the University will continue to organize beneficial events for students. The program ended with the presentation of a plaque to Prof. Dr. Kılıç by the Rector.
