Balıkesir
University (BAUN) organized a Certificate of Appreciation Ceremony for staff
and students who volunteered in post-earthquake relief efforts, along with the
Academic Incentive Award Ceremony. The event took place at the Şehit Fethi
Sekin Hall of the BAUN Atatürk Congress and Culture Center, with the
participation of BAUN Rector Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu, the senior administration,
senate members, academic and administrative staff, and students.
The
program began with a moment of silence and the Turkish National Anthem,
followed by the opening address of Rector Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu. Rector Oğurlu
started his remarks by offering condolences to all citizens who lost their
lives in the earthquake, including BAUN students, alumni, and relatives of
staff members. He emphasized that the university had made every effort to contribute
to the relief activities in the region from the very first day.
Rector
Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu stated:
“Among
those who served in the field were our doctors, healthcare staff, academics
conducting technical studies, and staff members engaged in aid and logistical
operations. Units and staff members in Balıkesir also actively participated in
material aid activities for the region. Furthermore, our students and staff
carried out psychosocial support efforts, educational activities, and social
programs for earthquake survivors hosted in our city. I once again extend my
gratitude to all our staff members. I would also like to thank the
philanthropists who supported the scholarship donation campaign we launched
under the umbrella of our University Foundation for students affected by the
earthquake.”
Rector
Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu: “Merit Deserves Recognition”
Sharing
his views on the Academic Incentive Award Ceremony, Rector Oğurlu highlighted

work receive the recognition it deserves, and underlined that the
administration embraces the principle of “Merit deserves recognition.”
Congratulating the award-winning academics, he stated:
“Our
expectation from our academics is that, through their high-quality research,
they contribute to elevating the academic reputation of Balıkesir University
both nationally and internationally.”
The program concluded with Rector Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu, the senior administration, and senate members presenting Certificates of Appreciation to staff and students who volunteered in post-earthquake efforts, as well as plaques to the academics who ranked among the top three in their respective units in the 2022 academic incentive score rankings.
