BAUN Faculty of Law Showcases its Distinction through Legal Clinics
The new
term of the Legal Clinics project, implemented under the protocol between the
Ministry of Justice Directorate General for Strategy Development and Balıkesir
University, commenced with an opening program.
The
Faculty of Law at Balıkesir University is successfully continuing the Legal
Clinics practice, which is carried out at only a limited number of universities
in Türkiye. Faculty of Law students receive practical training at the Balıkesir
Courthouse, developing their professional skills. The program offers students
not only theoretical knowledge but also the opportunity to observe litigation
processes firsthand and provide legal assistance to citizens.
The
opening program, held at the Balıkesir Courthouse to mark the start of the new
term, was attended by Balıkesir Chief Public Prosecutor Abdulkadir Akın,
President of the Balıkesir Judicial Commission Mehmet Soner Sağıroğlu, Rector
of Balıkesir University Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu, President of the Balıkesir Bar
Association Attorney Hakan Topaloğlu, Dean of the Faculty of Law Prof. Dr.
Mustafa Yasan, courthouse staff, faculty members, and students.
In his
opening address, Rector Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu emphasized the importance of
students’ active involvement in practical fields, noting that the program
successfully launched last year is continuing effectively. Rector Oğurlu
highlighted the program’s contributions to students’ professional knowledge and
skills and thanked the authorities for their support of this practice, which is
available at only a select number of law faculties in Türkiye.
Chief
Public Prosecutor Abdulkadir Akın also emphasized the significance of the Legal
Clinics program for their institution, stressing the importance of
complementing the theoretical knowledge taught at the Faculty of Law with
practice in order to train qualified jurists. He further noted that students
will contribute in the new term by raising public awareness on issues such as
tenancy disputes and mediation, and he concluded his remarks by wishing success
for the program.
